Way back in April of 2007-back in the day when Jonathan and I were the only members of our family (and back when we slept through the night) we took his family to The Butterfly Place in Westford. To get the best deal we could his parents purchased a pack of 10 tickets instead of the 6 we needed. So, that left 4 that we never ended up using between then and now.
Fast forward 7+ years to a few weeks back. We were in the midst of our Butterfly Unit and can you believe I still had those four leftover tickets? Lily and Levi were free so I only ended up using 3. Who knows when I’ll redeem the last ticket!
Anyway, we had a great time. I’m glad we were able to see real butterflies and real chrysalises since our caterpillar didn’t work out.
This past Wednesday we went on our first school field trip. The first part of My Father’s World-God’s Creation from A to Z is a ten day introduction about creation. We learned that on the fifth day God filled the seas with creatures and the skies with birds. We went to the aquarium to see some of the many diverse creatures God made! I wanted to do some sort of scavenger hunt, but ended up doing Bingo based on an idea I found on this blog. I made our own sheets and we used do-a-dot markers to mark off the animals we saw. I also added tasks I knew we would do like “touch a sting ray” and “top of the tank” for when we reached the top of the giant ocean tank.
Our first stop was the sting ray tank. Sarah had no qualms about sticking her hand in to touch a ray. Her sleeve got soaked in the process. Abigail was a bit more apprehensive. She insisted that she couldn’t attempt to touch the bigger ones. We were there for quite a while but Abigail did eventually touch a ray-and let out a big squeal once she did.
We then walked around to look at the penguins and smaller exhibits before checking out the giant ocean tank, sea lions, and jellies.
