A New Look

In an effort to save time and money we avoided cutting Abigail’s hair. This turned into us suggesting to her that she grow her hair so she could donate it for making a wig. We did go in for an occasional trim and then went for the big cut a few months ago.

Because I am a busy and forgetful mom I have yet to mail her hair, but when I do I am sending it to Pantene.

Here is Abigail before and after:

Christmas Concert

A friend of ours from church let us know of a great learning opportunity for Abigail. She told me about it a good year ahead of time and I’m so glad we didn’t forget about it because it was so great!

Every Saturday for 10 weeks or so in the fall/winter Abigail joined a few other children her age to learn Christmas carols. The end result was a beautiful performance along with an older youth choir and adult choir. Abigail LOVED going to music practice. I went with Levi every Saturday and enjoyed it too. It was fun getting to see husband and wife team Eric and Robin work together to create a really special performance.

Here is a video of Abigail singing with her Kid’s choir and then also with the Youth choir.

This performance was part of Not Your Typical Silent Night and happens every year. Check out http://nytsn.net/ for more info! We can’t wait for next year!

A Few Firsts

And these aren’t for Levi. I didn’t really think about all the “firsts” Abigail would experience this year-probably because of all the firsts Levi has had.

One first for Abigail was losing her first tooth. Her bottom tooth was quite wiggly a few weeks back. While watching America’s Funniest Videos Abigail saw a clip of a girl having her tooth yanked out with a piece of string. I convinced her to give it a try. I managed to tie a piece of dental floss around her tooth and proceeded to watch her s-l-o-w-l-y pull at her tooth. How could she be ok with this slow method? I suggested she let me yank it out. She agreed and a few squeals and 1-2-3 yank later it was out!

Three weeks later she went ahead and pulled her second bottom tooth out on her own while I wasn’t looking. On Sunday night her third came out with the help of a chewy lifesaver. We’re waiting for her fourth to probably come out within the week. And we can already see two of her grown-up teeth coming in!

Abigail’s second “first” was learning to ride her bike without training wheels. This was one of our summer bucket list items, but we didn’t get to it until September. Jonathan spent a little time with her one Sunday afternoon. She made progress but was hampered a bit as she was very discouraged each time she fell or lost balance.

A few days later though her determination got the best of her and she pressed on-on her own. First she tired out our neighbor’s smaller bike and then made several attempts on her own bike. Then BOOM! That was it. She can ride her bike all on her own without training wheels. What a girl!

We Have a Six-Year Old!

I can’t believe I’ve been doing this parenthood thing for six years now! On Saturday Abigail turned six. She’s been waiting for this day pretty much all year long.

Abigail is turning out to be such a sweet and sensitive little girl. She does have her strong-willed moments like most kids do. She will still come to me on occasion at night asking me to pray for her about various things-and I hope that never changes! She is also FULL of curiosity. She is always asking questions about all sorts of things. She is also a sponge-soaking up loads of information she is able to retell to others.

Here are photos of Abigail over the years:

We celebrated with family this weekend. Abigail asked for a crown cake. I found this one on a Diabetic Living website. I used it as inspiration for my sugar-filled version. I used my favorite sugar cookie recipe from southern living and crushed up lifesavers for the jewels. If I had it to do all over again I would have made the cookies a bit thinner.

Happy Birthday sweet Abigail. We thank God for blessing our lives with yours!

Last Day of School!

This past Wednesday was our last day of school. It was by no means an easy year, but we ended well. School for us was extremely laid back, but I am proud to say that both Sarah and Abigail learned a great deal over the year. I think we also should have an easier time doing more “real” school this fall, when Abigail starts Kindergarten.

At the beginning and end of the year I did interviews with the girls as well as first and last day of school pictures. I thought it would be fun to share how they’ve both changed over the past year:

Next year Abigail will start Kindergarten. We are using My Father’s World God’s Creation from A to Z. I’m confident that Sarah will be able to sit in on a lot of it, but I do plan on having activities that better suit her learning style (she is very wiggly). I know that I will have to also come up with fun school-time-only activities for Lily who is very needy when it comes to being entertained during her waking hours. We’ll see how it goes!

Abigail’s Birthday Revisited

Grandma Kapaldo had been working on a special birthday present for Abigail this year, which arrived in the mail yesterday afternoon. Who doesn’t like spreading out your birthday celebration! What surprised me is that in the morning Abigail knew she was expecting a package in the mail and did not want to wait for it to arrive, but once it arrived in the afternoon she had no problems waiting a bit longer for Daddy to get home to open everything up.

Abigail got a very special hand-made baby doll, a doll with a beautiful dress, and a dress Abigail’s size that matches her doll’s dress. Needless to say, this special gift was worth the wait. Abigail loves it!
